Little personal update
There are some rumors flying around so just to get it right from the horse's mouth, yes my house was burgled last week.
I had just arrived in from overseas, came home, had beef noodle soup at my favorite Hui place around the corner (at an incredible bargain of CNY 5), went for foot reflexology, came back and watched two crappy DVD's then went to sleep.
At 5pm the next day I woke up feeling complete groggy and slow with a weird taste in the back of my throat. I looked at the clock and thought there is no way I could sleep so late so I reach for my Blackberry but can't find it. Finally I get up to call myself from the landline and notice the door is wide open. I clearly remember closing it the previous night. Uh-oh. I go into the living room and notice my laptop is missing. Crap.
Most items of value from the house were taken including some items of sentimental value. All old emails, photos, and work related files accumulated over the last 5 years (since leaving the US) were in the back up device that was taken. They used some kind of gas / drug to render me unconscious while they did their deed, but on the bright side I'm well. All the material things can be replaced but it's a bit inconvenient when trying to do transition. At least I'm not hurt and it'll only be a good story one day, not a memory.

uzuldum, abi. gechmish olsun!
i am happy you are well and unhurt, though it is very very upsetting especially for the things of sentimental value rather than anything else...
my forensic instincts:
the thief(s) is probably someone you know, who knows that you are leaving town in less than a month, who is familiar with your routines. they pull it off and then lay low until you leave town. you may yet recover some things if you have good intelligence.
Holy crap! Good to hear you are fine. I'd be horrified. Hope all is well.
Oh, and I forgot to tell you, I am back to blogging too, but I moved my address. You can find me now on httP://moeverywhere.wordpress.com
Digs! Whoa... I'm so glad you're OK. How scary! Good luck on your move to Egypt and maybe I'll see you there sometime in the future!
